Safeguarding in the church sector
Around 160 union members are employed by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland primarily as specialists in administrative and press office positions. The Negotiation Organisation for Public Sector Professionals JUKO, of which Akava Special Branches is a member, negotiates and approves the main collective agreement for Church employees that defines the terms and conditions of employment relationships on behalf of the union’s members.
Parishes have comprehensively adopted a new pay scheme based on job demands and personal performance since the beginning of 2008.
At parish level, JUKO shop stewards negotiate primarily on issues concerning pay on behalf of union members. Authorised representative Kalevi Juntunen, who is responsible for safeguarding interests within the Church sector gives advice at the union’s office.
